Hugs winning Best of Breed 4-6 Month Puppy at the Mastiff Club of America National Specialty 2015

January 21, 2015 -

Hugs was the puppy with the X's and hearts on her ribbon, hence the nickname Hugs.  When she became our keeper puppy from the Mollie X McGee litter, we couldn't bring ourselves to change her name and Hugs stuck.  The name suits her.  There is no more snuggly companion than Hugs and her heart is eternally sweet.  That's not to say that she doesn't have a goofy side.  Sometimes,

I think she swallowed the Energizer Bunny!

Hugs showed incredible promise from her first day in the show ring.  She cranked right through her Ch points and became and AKC Champion easily at 11 month of age.  She was poised to do the same thing with her GCh title when she was the target of a rare attack at a dog show by another mastiff.  Since then, she has struggled with having enough confidence to show well in the ring.  It is a challenge we continue to work on with the hopes that we can bring this beautiful, young girl back to the ring to complete her GCh title.

In the meantime, Hugs makes our home a more joyful place and provide hours of warmth snuggling up next to us in bed.  We will complete her health testing in early 2017 and, if all goes well, hope to breed her in the latter half of the year.  She will make an amazing mother, just like her mother, Mollie.  She has demonstrated a tolerance, curiosity, and affinity for Claire's babies that we know she will extend to her own when her tme comes.
